Skin care sometimes takes a backseat to the myriad of things we have to attend to. And while we know that following a regular regimen for our skin’s health is vital, we often lack the time (and patience) to adhere to it. The build-up of acne, the appearance of scars and wrinkles certainly do not help our quest to have radiant, youthful skin. We want easy, quick solutions to improve our appearance, trying different products or investing in procedures without really looking into understanding what they offer.
“(We) don’t have down time (even when we want to care of our skin),” explained Dr. Marjorie Lalaine Salazar, medical director of SvelT’I Health and Beauty Centre in Quezon City.Patients want to be able to go in and out of treatment sessions with minimal disturbance to their schedules and daily routines”, she said to members of the media and bloggers at a recent event. Understanding this need is one of the reasons why SvelT’I introduced the non-ablative skin revitalization technology called Emerge.
Through a compact, intuitive user interface system with custom preset controls, Emerge Aesthetic Laser offers “quick, easy, and safe treatments,” according to the website of its developer, aesthetic and medical treatment systems manufacturer Cynosure. Emerge is designed to treat pigmented lesions and mild to moderate wrinkles through a diode laser technology. Pulses are delivered as an array of microbeams, the company’s product description stated. These “create columns of coagulation in the epidermis and dermis while leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected. The body’s natural healing process then rebuilds the treated tissue with new collagen and elastin, which are the building blocks of youthful looking skin.”
The non-invasive and non-surgical approach has been proven to also improve the appearance of chickenpox scars. And some clients who previously covered their skin imperfections with heavy makeup now only apply sunblock after the procedure to protect their skin. Patients who have tried Emerge have experienced skin redness after and/or tingling sensations during treatment for only a few minutes.
In a release, Salazar explained that the skin laser technology is “focused on the affected parts of the skin which lie a few layers below the epidermis or the surface. Fractional skin resurfacing with Palomar uses laser energy microbeams to create new layers of skin on the affected area that extends through the epidermis into the dermis. The body’s natural healing process allows new, healthy tissue to replace the areas of affected tissue, resulting in healthier, younger-looking skin.”
The SvelT’I Health and Beauty Centre, located at the South Insula Condominium along Timog Avenue, offers Emerge for 30-minute sessions with no downtime. “The patient can go home, shop in the mall, or return to work (after treatment),” Salazar noted. “They can resume their activities without any inconvenience. Prior to treatment, a consultation session is conducted to determine how Emerge can best be applied to every patient’s unique needs and lifestyle. “After one treatment, you can (already) see results,” the medical director said. “Commitment on the (patient’s) part is needed until the desired long-term result is achieved.”
