Starry, starry night

A dazzling night of glam, glitter, and dancing

For 10 years, Star Magic has created adorable yet fierce leading ladies, charming and heroic leading men, the most vicious villains of all time, and the wittiest, most humorous comedians. From singers to dancers to actors to winners of the most sought-after awards in the entertainment industry, most of them went through Star Magic, the training arena of ABS-CBN and Star Cinema.

And at the Star Magic Ball held at the Makati Shangri-la, all these talented celebrities, dressed in their most lavish black and white gowns and tuxedos, toasted to these achievements and by way of a serenade, paid tribute to the people behind ABS-CBN who motivated them every step of the way, particularly Gabby Lopez and Freddie M. Garcia (FMG). Darren Espanto, Alexa Ilacad, Bailey May, Ylona Garcia, CJ Navato, and Kristel Fulgar sang the hits of Carole King for Gabby while KZ Tandingan, Jona, Richard Poon, and Martin Nievera performed a Tony Bennet medley for FMG.

The traditional cotillion of the love teams was not to be missed. Gracefully dancing in their ball gowns and suits were Nash Aguas and Alexa, Grae Fernandez and Kira Balinger, Sue Ramirez and Ronnie Alonte, McCoy de Leon and Elisse Joson, and Tommy Esguerra and Miho Nashida while Jason Dy performed Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give Up.”

But the belle of the ball, the Cinderella of the night, the lady who caught the attention of everybody and won the Best Dressed award was Liza Soberano, dressed to dazzle in Michael Cinco. The same award was given to the ex-Pinoy Big Brother housemate and now the star of various teleseryes and movies Zanjoe Marudo, who was dapper in Lanvin.

Other special awards were given such as the Male and Female Stars of the Night to Charo Santos and Gabby Lopez; Couple of the Night to Sofia Andres and Diego Loyzaga, who said they came as “friends;” and the Star Magic Icon award to Jericho Rosales.

But when the clock struck 12 and the program, speeches, tributes, awarding, and performances were over, the party was just all warmed up. With DJ Luane, DJ Migs Santillan, and radio personality Joyce Pring, everybody grabbed their favorite drink and danced the night away.
