BAGUIO CITY -– Lawyer Carlos Canilao, Baguio City administrator on Friday, November 4, said activities for the Christmas in Baguio event will be finalized in a meeting with concerned local government unit (LGU) departments by mid-November.
Canilao said Christmas in Baguio is an annual event of the city which ushers tourism activities that will extend through the summer season.
In the proposed list, on December 1, a giant Christmas Tree will be lighted at the Rose Garden at Burnham Park.
Traditionally, the Giant Christmas Tree is lighted at the foot of Session Road until the tree was adopted by the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA).
The tree was at one time transferred to the top of Session Road where the rotunda is located until last year.
Designed by Architect Aries Go in cooperation with the City Buildings and Architecture Office (CBAO), the giant Christmas Tree is made out of donated recycled and scrap materials.
Canilao said the usual activities like concerts will still be conducted at the top of Session road and the rehabilitated Malcolm Square (People’s Park) which will also be opened on December 1.
The city’s Christmas Village will also open at Children’s Playground with the lighting of Burnham park including the orchidarium.
The Saint Louis University (SLU) Lantern Parade is set on December 1 starting 6:30 p.m. which will carry the theme, “Different Colors of Nations”.
The 43rd edition of “Silahis ng Pasko” will also kick-off on December 1.
The Children’s Mardigras at the Melvin Jones Grandstand will open at 8 a.m. also on December 1 which will feature the search for the Little Miss and Mister “Silahis ng Pasko”, children’s “Kultora-o-rama” and dance fest with day care centers at 2 p.m.
On December 3 is Share A Joy, Baguio children’s Christmas fun alley and raffle joys with little helping hands, newspaper boys, shoeshine boys, baggage boys and bag sellers.
A Palaro and raffle for gift items will be held 9 a.m. at the Camp John Hay bell amphitheater hosted by the John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC).
December 4 is the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Cadet’s Day at the Park with a silent drill at 10 a.m. and a PMA Band Concert at 2 p.m. at Malcolm Square.
On December 3 and 4 is the Quest for the Baguio Lucky Christmas Family 2016 who will be given a red carpet reception, accommodations, sightseeing tours including courtesy calls to ranking government officials.
Immaculate Conception Day will be observed on December 8 with a Thanksgiving Mass at 9 a.m. at the Shrine of the Brown Madonna, Km. 7, Asin Road, Tuba, Benguet.
On December 11 is the Baguio City High School dancing and singing Christmas Tree starting 2 am at Malcolm Square hosted by the Baguio-Benguet Market Plaza Multi-Purpose Cooperative and the SLU-SVP Housing Cooperative.
Canilao said the committee will still look into all these proposed activities and the final list will definitely be ready on December 1.
