A Faaabvlous evening

Rupert Jacinto launches Faaabvlous VII

By Tina Hidalgo Jacinto

Phenomenal vibes elevated the evening into a beautiful moment. This annual black-tie benefit was a must-attend among Manila’s eternally chic jet set.  Rupert Jacinto has been lauded for his “Faaabvlous” series since our society enjoys seeing always something new, something that has never been done before.

The Faaabvlous photographer and the Washington Post, in partnership with the Peninsula Manila and Calata Corporation and the Advertising Foundation of the Philippines, recently launched the “Faaabvlous VII” photo exhibit and the Faaabvlous Ball—a charity gala dinner and coffeetable book celebration at the Rigodon Ballroom of The Peninsula Manila.

The two-fold event commenced at the photo exhibit opening, where fashionably dressed guests gathered at the Gallery for champagne, personally selected by wine diva Tita Trillo of Titania.  Aside from his formal portraits, spotlight this year was Jacinto’s new multimedia art, Faaabvlous Faces, Dazzling Diadems.  Rupert has an incessant passion for exploring the art around him; Jacinto’s diadems sparkled and shimmered with a glow even from a far distance.  His attention to detail with its bold colors, elaborate patterns, and natural textures added a definitive oomph to the already covetable collection. Rupert likes being able to be creative because it feeds his soul.

Always in the pursuit of the cutting edge events, stylist par excellence Junjun Ablaza decorated the Gallery and the Rigodon Ballroom, which was bathed in elegance.

Famed society host Johnny Litton delivered his usual wit and humor. Following was a short speech by Rupert. During dinner Christian Nagano and Marie Anne Dominese enthralled the A-listers with their powerful duet number “Conte Partiro.” After their performance came the auction of Ramon Orlina’s glass sculpture. Tycoon Tony Boy Floirendo outbid the rest of the Orlina fans.

Guests of honor Ambassador Rolando Alvarado, Ambassador Thierry Mathou, and Ambassador Rodrigo Souza assisted in the unveiling of the cover ladies Merci Padolina and Imelda Pechera. Senator Edgardo Angara and Ramon Orlina assisted in the unveiling of the cover ladies Virginia Lane and Joy Rustia.

The Faaabvlous Ball was in support of the Love-A-Parish Program of the Sto. Nino de Paz Chapel Greenbelt, Makati, which aids needy churches nationwide, under Father Jun Sescon as well as for the advocacy programs of the Adfoundation.

Faaabvlous icons of 2016 Betsy Westendorp, Cecile Licad, Consul Mellie Ablaza, Consul General Fortune Ledesma, and Consul Helen Ong and Male Icon Ramon Orlina were handed Hermes gifts courtesy of Mario Katigbak of Hermes.

There was joyful energy ricocheting off the ballroom walls at the grand raffle prize, which was a round trip Etihad ticket for two to Europe. Country manager Juan Torres awarded the prize to the beauteous Mara Gereine.  Prizes from Shilpa and Raj Tolani were awarded for the Best in Gown White Yoli Ayson; Best in Black Anna Sia; Best in Black and White Mel Pechera and Faaabvlous couple of the evening went to Gerry Lane and Virginia Lane.

Dancing followed with Danny Favis and his band.
