Boutique carrier Skyjet Airlines launched its inaugural flight today at Siargao Sayak Airport for the first-ever direct flight from Manila Domestic Airport to Siargao Island, which was cited as one of the top 8 best surfer destinations in the world.
“Today marks another milestone of SkyJet Airlines as we connect this island paradise closer to the world by launching non-stop direct flights to this surfing capital of the Philippines,” said Dino Reyes-Chua, President of SkyJet Airlines.
“This is good news for both foreign and local tourists. No more stopover in Cebu to reach Siargao island. It’s totally hassle-free experience using our 80-seater British Aerospace jet,” Chua added.
The SkyJet aircraft landed at exactly 7:40 a.m. with provincial officials headed by Governor Sol Matugas and Congressman Bingo Matugas of Surigao Del Norte witnessing its arrival.
On board the early flight were Department of Transportation Secretary (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade with other DOTr officials including officers of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) represented by Deputy Director General Capt. Kit Tamayo.
“We’ve been waiting for this day to happen as it will definitely boost the tourism here in Siargao Island as well as the business around the area,” said Mayor Alfredo Matugas Corro of Del Carmen, Siargao Island.
SkyJet Airlines is flying to different island destinations across the country. It is the fastest and the largest jet to land in Batanes, Coron, Palawan, Boracay (Caticlan), Balesin Island and now to Siargao Island. SkyJet offers free in-flight perks such as free drinks and snacks plus free flowing wine. Tickets also include a free 10-kilogram check-in baggage allowance. It also offers comfortable and spacious seats with bigger legroom plus passengers can choose their seats allocation for free.
Unlike other budget airlines, SkyJet offers boutique personalized service with a lot of perks and privileges. Even the boarding pass can be used as discount vouchers in various establishments, including hotels and restaurants around the island.
SkyJet Airlines uses a fleet of 80-seater British Aerospace jets, the official aircraft of Queen Elizabeth and the British Royal Family, making it one of the safest in the world.
