The busy street of Session Road has been closed since February 26 for the annual Session Road in Bloom (SRB) to compliment the local business sector in Baguio City.
Two lanes of the 500 meter lower Session Road was closed to vehicular traffic after the Grand Floral Float Parade of the 22nd Baguio Flower Festival – Panagbenga 2017.
This is a week-long event featuring food and different products from all over the country with an open-air dining spots, concerts and several performances in a day.
Media Affairs Committee Chairman Andrew Pinero said about 270 stalls are occupied by different lessors.
Some leased three stalls depending on the specific need of a tenant.
“For example, the Inihaw Republic of Monterey Meat Shop got five stalls depending on their experience on market demand in the previous years,” Pinero said.
Pinero said out of the 270 stalls occupied, forty are complimentary.
Socio-civic organizations, Baguio Arts Guild (BAG) and Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC) are among those who were given complimentary booths.
Others were endorsed by local government officials to help these groups raise money for their fund raising activities, Pinero added.
The Baguio Flower Festival Foundation, Inc (BFFI) also gives a 50 percent discount on stall rentals if the products to be displayed and sold are plants to encourage more lessors with these kinds of products.
The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) plays a very important role in this particular event.
The organization sees to it that the peace, order and cleanliness are well-maintained, Pinero said.
Rental is about PHP15,000 per space or stall including the tent which may increase depending on the location and size of the stall.
Meanwhile, the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) president and Baguio City councilor Michael Lawana said the Liga ng Barangay were provided stalls for free along Assumption Road and lowest portion of Session Road for their fund raising activities.
Major sponsors like Globe and Smart provide entertainment on the weekend of the SRB.
Concerts and entertainment are being shouldered by the BFFI just to help the lessors attract crowds and help them earn from the BFF – Panagbenga, Pinero said.
