When you think about jewelry houses, you realize that there are a lot of family-owned business that run for many generations and manage to still come up with new concepts and creations that still make them stand out among competition. A good example is Oro China Jewelry, as this year marks its 50th anniversary.

In 1967, Oro China Jewelry started out as a small jewelry store in Colon, Cebu City with one office staff and 20 plateros or goldsmiths. What started out as a passion to craft extraordinary pieces evolved into a business that makes timeless jewelry pieces that can be easily passed down from one generation to another.

To mark its golden anniversary, the premier jewelry brand celebrated with a gala fashion show at the Santa Maria Ballroom of Radisson Blu Cebu on March 11. Oro China Jewelry enlisted the help of renowned fashion designers Jun Escario, Arcy Gayatin, Philip Rodriguez, and Cary Santiago from Cebu and Rajo Laurel, Francis Libiran, and Randy Ortiz from Manila and have askedeach designer to make a five-piece collection to go with the jewelry brand’s famed line of pearls and handcrafted pieces featuring diamonds, precious stones, Chinese, Italian, or Saudi Arabian gold. Oro China’s brand ambassadors Raine Baljak, Merce Abellana, Eva Patalinjug, Cheska Garcia Kramer, Isabelle Daza, Kylie Verzosa, and Joy Rustia served as muses to the designers.

Opening the show was Randy Ortiz who presented his luxe champagne and ivory collection. Oro China’s diamonds set in gold were complemented by his ladylike silhouettes and embroidered pieces.

Rajo Laurel followed, whose collection was minimal and effortless ala Jil Sander and Helmut Lang. His nude and white color scheme went perfectly well with the rose gold collection of Oro China.

With Italian gold jewelry to wear, Arcy Gayatin’s collection was all about cocktail dresses, gowns, and chic separates in black neoprene, embellished with pink flamingo patchwork. Simply put, the combination of Gayatin’s collection with the jewelry was bold and quirky.

Up next was Philip Rodriguez. His jewel-tone ball gowns brought more color to the runway, which complemented Oro China’s desirable emeralds as well.

Francis Libiran then presented his all-black pleated gowns collection that shows off Oro China’s blue sapphire pieces.

Adorned with layers and layers of pearls, Jun Escario’s collection was all about ivory and black in separates that are effortless and chic.

Cary Santiago presented his all-white collection, highlighted by formal silhouettes and laser-cut details. His gowns accented with Oro China’s gold and ruby jewelry. A very fitting finale to a truly golden night.

Throughout the years, Oro China Jewelry has been proud of being a brand with a wide range of quality pieces that are perfect heirlooms. The story behind each piece give it its value, quality, and beauty. Oro China has proven to be a beloved brand by all and we can only expect more innovation and more timeless pieces from them in the years to come.
