Even though we might be living in this age of technology and wired generation, teddy bears still remain as an iconic gift for everybody. It has always been a big part of our lives; for adults, teddy bears remind them of their childhood and still find great consolation.

Children, aside from providing an unlimited supply of warm hugs, rely on it as a secretive confidant; a best friend and companion. Furthermore, we are lucky to celebrate special occasions with our family and loved ones; always having shoulders to lean on and hugs whenever we want to.

But have you thought about how and to whom indigent children and an orphan can express their hopelessness?

This is why SM Supermalls together with the SM Hotels Group and Toy Kingdom had once again launched their annual Christmas charity project, the SM Bears of Joy. This project allowed mall shoppers to extend their love and sympathy to underprivileged kids ensuring priceless smiles on their faces. In this simple act, shoppers were given a chance to show care through bear giving to our less fortunate brothers and sisters. The thought of giving, no matter how big or small, will always be the real spirit of the season. Truly, Christmas is the perfect time to celebrate and share the love and blessings of God; but remember that Filipino spirit lives on through kindness and generosity all throughout the year.

To make it feel more personal, shoppers’ expressed their love by writing down messages together with their name on the cards that were attached to the bears. All collected toy bears were donated to the SM Property’s chosen beneficiaries. Through the joint effort of mall shoppers and employees; they’ve truly shared a gift of happiness to our dear angels. Considering bears as a symbol of strength, courage, and endurance, it is also what teddy bears gave to those lovely children in need.

Their picture-perfect smiles told us that what they’ve got is not just a teddy bear, but a newly found family member.
