The appreciation of art and what is beautiful is probably one of the things which can truly elevate a person. What’s good about it is that one does not even have to share the same beliefs as the people behind that art to appreciate something. The whole beauty of something is increased even more if there is a historical aspect to the artwork.
It was mentioned last week that the San Sebastian Church needs so much for it to continue to exist. Without outside help, this uniquely beautiful structure will just continue to deteriorate. To make people realize why something like this church needs to be rehabilitated, it is often necessary to remind them of how beautiful it actually is. For some, photos like the ones we have now are the first encounter they have with this center of religious worship which has served this area and Catholic faithful for more than a hundred years.
This is why this week, we focus on the photos to remind everyone of how in this house of God, the holy sacrifice of the Mass continues to be shared and how the magnificence and grandeur of God can be encountered. In the past Holy Week, may we have all encountered God more closely by opening our hearts to Him and by being open to the wonder and magnificence of this, His house.
To help preserve this church, please contact the San Sebastian Basilica Conservation and Development Foundation. You can also sign up for a tour of the place and, if you’re up to it, you can go up to the rafters where very few people go.
