Big party planning ideas

Rocio's Runway was truly pink perfection.

Rocio’s Runway was truly pink perfection.

My daughter has the biggest smile as she looks up at the large light globes suspended in the ceiling of the grand ballroom. She runs up the stage which has been formed to make a T runway. To her left is a pink Eiffel tower and to her right, a life-size fountain. Around the water feature, individual letter blocks spell out her name like an arched marquee. Today is her big day. Today Rocio turns super seven! Eyes wide open and arms extended, she runs to give me a bear hug. “Thank you Mom! It’s a dream come true!”

Theme, Venue, and Party Planning

Flashback to three months ago: After I agreed to Rocio’s request for a fashion-themed party, I immediately booked three ballrooms of The Bellevue Manila. The rooms’ had giant LED screens, state-of-the-art light fixtures made it appropriate for the big production I envisioned. The chef also helped us out a lot with the menu selection and food tasting, even going as far as tweaking the taste on the spot to be served to our liking.

Next, my trusted party planner and I brainstormed on the concept and look for the party. The result? A fashion show in Paris!

Rocio’s Runway

More than 250 of our family and friends came including 20 girls who formed Rocio’s fashion squad. Thank you, Woodrose moms, for the support! While the guests enjoyed the buffet feasts (and doughnuts), four heartwarming AVPs were shown. There were also performances by my daughter, husband, and son, along with a runway numbers. A makeup booth, a nail and beauty lounge, and an ice cream booth kept the attendees entertained.

My favorite moment of the party was when my daughter sang “The Journey” as a photo video chronicling her seven years played on the screen. My husband and I stood in the crowd as we watched Rocio carry herself with so much confidence. We could only beam with pride.

A Mother’s Reward

Late that night, I lay awake replaying the day. Friends congratulated me on how fabulous, touching, and successful the event was and I thought have I really done enough? It was my husband’s 50th birthday, you see, and the party was a surprise for him, too. Then I saw a note by the bedside table, written by my girl and signed by her and the two boys:

“Dear Super Mom,

We don’t want this day to end! Thank you for giving us the best party ever. Did we make you proud? We love you forever!”

Motherhood is the most challenging job there is. But the satisfaction of being a mom is priceless and the joy unrivaled. Happy 7th birthday, Rocio! You, Daddy, and Kuya Miguel are this Supermom’s greatest gifts and reasons to carry on.
