With Boracay closed for five more months, summer winding down, and rain slowly creeping in, city folks are looking for one more chance to enjoy the season—and a place to spend it. We recently flew to El Nido, Palawan to shoot our “last hurrah for summer” fashion editorial and had the opportunity to stay in the town’s first boutique hotel, Lagùn Hotel, which is currently on soft opening.
As you enter the hotel, the lobby has an immediate impact. The colorful interiors were thoughtfully designed by Cecil Ravelas. She used sustainable bamboo for the ceiling, turned felled trees into furniture, and hung handwoven wicker pendant lamps by Zacarias 1925 (a collaboration with artist Gabby Lichauco).
The five-story hotel has 37 rooms, including a special PWD room. On the ground floor, there is an all-day-dining restaurant, which left my tummy happy after each meal. Their chef is a gem! And don’t forget to check out the roof deck, which has a pool and where you can enjoy the stunning views of Taraw Limestone Cliff and the ocean in the distance. (The spa opens in June.)
One of Lagùn Hotel’s strong points is that it is far enough from the busy center, yet close enough that you can walk to town and enjoy the many charming bars, restaurants, and shops. And it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump to the bancas parked by the shore and which can take you island-hopping—a must when in El Nido!
