Fashion designer Cesar Gaupo passed away earlier today.
He was 72.
No other detail has been revealed as of yet, except that he died peacefully, “in his sleep.”
Gaupo spent nearly 50 years in the fashion industry and is considered to be a pioneer, co-founding the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines.
He trained under Aureo Alonzo when he was 13 years old. Later on, Gaupo spent decades as a designer for SM, after having been personally handpicked by Tessie Sy-Coson. He also designed for John Kenner.
Gaupo moved to Hong Kong in the mid 2000s to be the chief designer for global clothing chain Shanghai Tang, returning to the Philippines.
Gaupo came from a party last night in celebration of his birthday. He was surrounded by family and friends during the intimate occasion.
Friends have taken to Facebook to mourn the loss of the Pinoy fashion icon.
