Iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has died at age 85, according to French magazine Closer.
The Chanel and Fendi creative director was said to have been suffering from ill health for several weeks.
Earlier in January, Lagerfeld missed two of Chanel’s haute couture shows in Paris, but the fashion brand only said at that time that he was feeling tired.
Fashion designers all over the world have started posting their respects on social media. “Karl, your genius touched the lives of so many, especially Gianni and me,” wrote Donatella Versace. “A genuis is dead. A great friend is dead. So sad I cannot even find the right words,” wrote Giancarlo Giammetti. “You brought so much beauty to this world. Your legacy will live on forever,” wrote shoe designer Brian Atwood.
