The MB Sketchfest is Manila Bulletin’s popular on-the-sport drawing and sketching contest held annually.

The theme – “Fiestas and Colors of the Philippines” – was inspired by the many colorful and energetic celebrations that happen all year-round in the country. In addition to being a showcase of the traditions of the country’s different regions, these festivals are a reflection of Philippine culture and are a symbol of its national identity.

“The Manila Bulletin firmly supports the propagation of Filipino culture by focusing on the unique and colorful festivals that are celebrated in the various islands of the Philippines,” said Manila Bulletin Executive Vice President Sonny Coloma.

Under the contest rules, creativity and originality make up 35 percent and 25 percent of the criteria, respectively.

MB Sketchfest 2019 will be the ninth year that the Manila Bulletin has mounted the popular contest. Last year, a total of 2,684 people joined the contest, reflecting a steady rise of participants to the competition.

The categories are Kiddie (children 12 years old and below); Junior (13 to 18 years old); and Senior (19 years and older). Three winners from each category, from each of the nationwide legs of the Sketchfest, will receive cash prizes and may be featured in the Manila Bulletin newspaper.

There is also an Exhibition Category wherein wall-bound and ready-for-hanging artworks of any medium may be submitted between June 17 and August 9 to the Manila Bulletin main office in Intramuros, Manila. Entries should be original artworks and based on the given theme.

The MB Sketchfest 2019 will be held on three dates to cover Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The Davao leg will be held on June 22 at the Annex Event Center, SM City Davao in Davao City, while the Cebu leg will be held on July 27 at the Mountain Wing Atrium of SM Seaside Cebu in Cebu City. The Luzon leg will be held on August 26 at the Music Hall, SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Participants may pre-register online at sketchfest2019.mb.com.ph with the following deadlines: June 15 for the Davao leg, July 20 for the Cebu leg, and August 19 for the Luzon leg. They may also register on-site by filling out an application form and presenting a valid ID which bears the participant’s date of birth.
