I n the animated movie Ralph Breaks the Internet, we saw the dynamic duo of Ralph and Vanellope navigate the World Wide Web. It was a fun-filled adventure on which they tried to figure out their aspirations and let go of bankrupt notions as they journeyed from killer video games and social media platforms to ebay and the dark web. But a defining moment in the film was the scene in which we saw the puny Vanellope accidentally meet the Disney princesses.
That scene presented the different side of the tame princesses, especially as Vanellope gave them advice to break free and let loose from the gowns and tiaras, accept their flaws, and embrace their dreams that matter.
The voice behind Vanellope, Sarah Silverman, said in USA Today that, “Disney has kind of grown and changed and become more inclusive, reflecting more our world.” Disney’s classic tales are being reworked to give princesses a new voice (e.g. Princess Jasmine in the 2019 live-action movie Aladdin) and to make Disney’s characters “not relic or dated, because they’re always evolving.”
For today’s modern woman, Happy Skin is in constant pursuit of the best way to give women confidence by merging skincare and cosmetic into one product. For the second time, the homegrown Filipino beauty brand is collaborating with Disney, opening its classic tales to bring Filipinas’ favorite princesses into their 19-piece makeup collection.
No crown, no gowns
Throwing away those princess shenanigans, these classic Disney princesses are no longer damsels in distress, but are leading their own path to their dreams. Launching the collection in a slumber party fantasy full of lush pillows, satin bedspreads fluttering feather, and twinkling lights, Disney and Happy Skin invited modern-day women who embodied the traits and characteristics of the classic ye evolved Disney princesses. Manifesting the princesses in the slumber party were Alyssa “Chii” Gibbs as icy Elsa, Kiana Valenciano as the sassy Princess Jasmine, Kevin Balot as the naive Rapunzel who is smartening up, Sab Magalona as the sweet Princess Aurora, Nicole Andersson as the lovely Princess Ariel, Laureen Uy as the brave Princess Mulan, and Kylie Verzosa as the bright Princess Belle.

Damsels of today
“The modern princess knows how to celebrate womanhood but can break barriers,” says co-founder and chief brand officer Rissa Mananquil-Trillo. “It’s a different kind of empowerment when women can feel they can do more. Many think makeup is so frivolous, but for me, makeup is one of the indulgences that mostly benefit its wearer. One swipe of a lipstick can make you change what you feel.”
“The timeless stories of our Disney princesses have inspired generations of women, and through this collection, our aim is to inspire and empower today’s young women by creating their own magical stories,” says Disney Philippines director for consumer products Yara Macalindong.
