Sari Yap, founder and CEO of One Mega Group, Inc. and founding editor of Mega Magazine, died Monday morning due to cancer.
The fashion magazine broke the news on Facebook, “Just as the heavens are draped in an overcast of gray, with rains threatening to fall as if it were tears above, it is with a heavy heart we mourn the passing of our founder and guiding light, Sari Yap. May her stories live on and her soul rest eternally in light and love.”
After pursuing her graduate studies in Spain, Yap founded One Mega Group, Inc. in 1991, which is now the home of homegrown magazine titles: Lifestyle Asia, Meg, BluPrint, MyHome, Appetite, Celebrity Mom, Travel Now, Inside Showbiz, and Mega Magazine.
Yap’s contribution to the publishing and fashion industry spans across the pages of her company’s portfolio of glossies. Celebrating young and upcoming Filipino fashion creatives, she produced shows such as Mega Fashion Crew, I Am Meg, and Mega Young Designers Competition.
Lifestyle guru and host Tim Yap describes Yap in his post saying, “She was that kind of friend, always open, asks the most questions, is the most honest, and always reaches out to help.” He also stated in the post that the publishing pioneering has been battling cancer for many years. “While her body was battling the big C, she continued to heal others with her strength, her determination, and her faith.”
Mega Magazine’s current editor Peewee Reyes-Isidro lamented her mentor’s death on Facebook with a post saying, “I will always be grateful to Sari for taking a chance on me and for allowing me to fill such big, big shoes. Thank you for teaching me the value of hardwork. Thank you for being the gold standard. Thank you for being an inspiration. Thank you for driving us to be the best versions of ourselves. You will forever be missed. My mentor and my friend- you will always be cherished. Farewell.”
A wake will be held in her honor at Santuario de San Antonio Parish on Sept. 11 at 10 a.m.
