Bars in Italy are now giving customers pasta straws for their drinks. Posted on Reddit by u/GranFabio, the user shared a snap of his drink with a pasta straw. He wrote, “Here in Italy bars are starting to use pasta as straws to reduce plastic use. Our technology amazes the world another time.”

A few places in the UK have also been trying the innovation out. Last year, Brace & Browns on Whiteladies Road in Bristol introduced pasta straws in a bid to cut down on plastic.

Stroodles are pasta straws made from wheat and flour, and are a hundred percent biodegradable and vegan. Unlike paper straws that melt away after a couple of minutes, pasta straws last up to an hour. Not unless you’re drinking a hot beverage of course.

These straws are guaranteed to have zero taste. Disposing one is easy, leaving it on a compost heap is no problem.
