The second installment of this year’s Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival kicks off with a collection that’s fun, sunny, and totally fruity.
Yong Davalos’ “Summer Capital” collection is an ode to adventure, playing with the shades of a sunny day, from candy tangerines, passionate scarlets and reds, to bright yellow and cool blues.
Each piece has a sense of romance with billowy sleeves, sweetheart necklines, and off-the-shoulder tops.
Adding a sense of quirkiness is her use of fruit-printed fabrics such as papaya, orange, and strawberry, making her collection the dose of vitamin C your summer wardrobe needs.
Her trimmings of pompoms and fringe add flair to the movement of the each piece as models walk to the beat of percussions on the background.
Apart from tropical-inspired pieces, Davalos’ also explored the art of the terno as crop tops with the iconic butterfly sleeves and her modern interpretation of the balintawak took the runway.
To make it more Filipino, the models donned a sleek ponytail wrapped with nettings in the way female farmers keep their hair away from the face while on the field, making them look like a pop art version of a Fernando Amorsolo painting.
