Pretty In Pink

Clinique’s pink party proves there’s no such thing as too much pink to look good and feel good

By Kim Reyes-Palanca

Color psychology suggests that pink, like red, gives a calming effect. Prolonged exposure to pink, however, eventually gives an exciting and uplifting feeling. Romantic, playful, vibrant—it’s a color universally associated with love and self-love, femininity, tenderness, kindness.

When it comes to beauty, a dose of pink anywhere on the face can brighten instantly, and can make you both look and feel good. Mimicking a healthy flush is one beauty trick that never fails—a swipe of pink lipstick, blush, or even eyeshadow can transform tired or pale skin.

To celebrate Clinique favorites— the newly reformulated Moisture Surge and their well-loved Cheek Pop—an exclusive beauty party was held at Okada Manila’s all-pink suite. No detail was spared as every corner was decked pretty in pink: a receiving area with magenta lounge chairs, a Clinique Cheek Pop blush bar to sample (and layer!) over skin, a carnation-colored floral wall, a luxurious rose-marbled bathroom complete with a pink jacuzzi ball pit, and, of course, an all-pink bedroom filled with pink blooms. The beautiful shades of blush would leave anyone feeling light and happy.

Pink bubbly or rosé was also passed around during the occasion. Clinique also had photographer Rxandy Capinpin capture the guests enjoying the good views and vibes of the “pink oasis” created by Clinique. “An afternoon of hydration and radiance,” the inscription on the invitation, fittingly describes the celebration.

Thanks to the new 72-hour auto-replenish technology in Moisture Surge, the skin will hold more moisture and stay hydrated all-day or even after more than a day. “It helps skin create its own internal water source wherein hydration penetrates different layers of the epidermis. In that sense, the water doesn’t evaporate quickly and doesn’t leave you feeling dehydrated,” says Jen de Jesus, Clinique senior sales and education manager.

With this lightweight automatic hydrator, you’re confident that skin retains hydration levels whether or not you reapply during the day. “The activated aloe water is able to distribute moisture levels. It contains vitamins C and E, which prevent environmental aggressors from damaging the moisture barrier,” adds Jen. You can follow the twice-a-day application regimen or go by feel. Factors like stress, lack of sleep, and pollution determine the skin’s needs and comfort levels. Rest assured, Moisture Surge works hard to keep skin moisturized even after washing your face.

A dusting of Cheek Pop on skin after using Moisture Surge completes the look. The varieties of Cheek Pop are silky blush pots with the most subtle highlighters that add dimension to skin. From natural-looking to more intense, Cheek Pop makes the skin look smooth and radiant by giving that elusive healthy glow. Sorbet and Melon Pop are my picks.

I asked special guests at Clinique’s Pink Oasis party how they inject pink in their wardrobe and makeup. Here’s what they had to say:

Clinique Berry Pop is my favorite and I’ve had it in my kit for five years now. When I wear pink I always pair it with neutrals like gray or white.—JIG MAYUGA, makeup artist

I’m super boyish in person so I always love to incorporate pink in my outfits. If not a pink outfit, pink blush is life! I used to play with lipsticks a lot but now I focus more on my blush to make me look fresh and young. I go for ones with a bit of orange tones like Clinique Peach or Ginger Pop.—JESSICA YANG, international model

Pink is my feel-good color, I would normally wear a pink dress on a special occasion, or on days I want to feel extra good about myself. It can really change your mood so a touch of pink in my outfit for the day always has a positive effect. When I do my makeup, I make sure that my cheeks have a touch of pink for that rosy glow. My go-to lipstick has a shade of pink and nude, it looks natural but with a pop of color. And I always put a touch of pink in my eyeshadow. Pink is life!—GRETCHEN FULLIDO, entertainment and lifestyle host

After my foundation sets in, I do a quick sweep of my favorite Cheek Pop in Pink Pop on the apples of my cheeks to achieve that just-pinched look. But my makeup only looks good on clean and hydrated skin so I make sure to include Moisture Surge as the final step of my skin care routine, even before I put on any makeup.—KAYE FIDELINO, Clinique Philippines general manager

Most of my clothes and accessories have a touch of pink so whenever I mix and match, it all just ties in together. For makeup, my signature lip color would always be ombré pink! My HG are Clinique Lip Pop Matte in Graffiti, which is a hot pink lip shade that gives a just-bitten look, and Clinique Pop in Rosy Pop for the best just-pinched cheek blush for me.—KATE REYES, Clinique digital and social media executive
