Whether it’s for a night out of town, trying on dresses at the mall, or styling the perfect look for prom, dressing up is always fun when the experience is shared with friends. Fashion strengthens sisterhood in many special ways as represented in multiple media. This has been seen in the novel The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares, in the sassy relationship of Carrie Bradshaw with her girlfriends in Sex and the City, and in the iconic duo of Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge in the ’50s comic series by Archie Comics.
Fashion in friendship is a bond on its own. Through fashion, one sometimes becomes a part of the pack of forever sisterhood, whether in a form of a charm bracelet or a makeover. This is what Keds aims to bring with their newest collection in partnership with the Archie’s Comics classic, the sisterhood bound by love and style.
A brand championing women, Keds wants to celebrate female camaraderie in style with its new line of technicolored soles featuring the blonde and brunette duo.
Betty and Veronica have always been icons of friendship and rivalry better known for their mantra: ‘If he can do it, we can do it.’
Better known for their mantra “If he can do it, we can do it,” Betty and Veronica have always been icons of friendship and rivalry. In their stylish flair on the pages of the comics comes an unlimited fashion inspiration, reflecting the relatable personalities of the two characters.
This is not the first time Keds is showcasing the OG BFFs. “Keds has always been a ladies first brand,” says Kytes de Laza, Keds Philippines marketing manager. “We’ve always done collaborations with brands that resonate with women. Betty and Veronica are two iconic women who relate to the brand. It’s natural for us to do a collab with them.”
Just in time with the recent release of the newest season of the cult favorite show Riverdale, the new collection features the all-American retro style of Keds champion canvas sneakers and kickstart tennis shoes, now adorned with comic illustrations of the girls and leopard prints that come in monochrome and a few pops of cotton candy print.
“The personalities of Betty and Vernonica represent women’s strength and reliance,” says Laza, making the iconic duo a relevant representation of empowered women to this day.
