Chalk up another win for the country as mother-and-son tandem Aimee Lorraine and Keith Lee came out as champions at the Hot Wheels South East Asia Championship Junior Division (five to eight years old) held at the SM Mall of Asia last month, besting other contestants from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia , and Thailand. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s team comprised of mom Putri Arimbi and her son Nabil El Zhar were hailed as winners under the Senior Division for ages nine to 12 years old.
This year’s competition included challenges that piqued young contestants’ creative juices with obstacles that further developed their problem-solving and fine motor skills. Save the Hot Wheels City, Southeast Asia Tour, and Giant Loop Action were some of the stations the kids had to get through.
The awarding ceremony was led by Hot Wheels car designer Brendon Vetuskey from Los Angeles, who flew in for this event, along with Toy Kingdom assistant vice president Pearl Datiles, Mattel marketing manager Cherlyn Chong, and Richprime Global Inc. executive vice president Liza Yao.
Aside from this main attraction, there were a lot in store for all the Hot Wheels fans. A large 4×4 Jeep Wrangler that Brendon customized was also showcased that day. Brendon did a livestream segment for Lazada, talking about the hottest products. The Diecast Car Collectors of the Philippines (DCPH) and the Pinoy Hot Wheels Collectors Club (PHWCC) were also present to have their cars signed by him.
The giant two-story loop, die-cast car displays, and Hot Wheels id experience were on display for fans to check out as well. A fashion show competition featuring the toy car brand and performances by celebrities Marlo Mortel, Niño Mulach, and Alonzo Mulach were also part of the action-packed day
