Kendall Jenner wore a bright red tulle dress in a garden maze dotted with red roses to launch H&M’s newest designer collaboration. Italian couturier Giambattista Valli is the latest of the fashion retail brand’s many designer and brand collabs, which started of with the late Karl Lagerfeld, then continued on every year with Stella McCartney, Viktor and Rolf, Roberto Cavalli, Comme des Garcons, Jimmy Choo, Versace, and Alexander Wang, to name a few.
This time, H&M wants to give their most couture collections with the help of Valli. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Giambattista Valli,” says Ann Sofie Johansson, creative advisor at H&M. “He is the undisputed master of haute couture with a knack for the memorable silhouette. To be able to bring his signature styles to our customers is a dream come true.”
Giambattista Valli x H&M first made headlines last May in Cannes with personalities and artists such as Jenner, Chris Lee (Li Yuchun), Chiara Ferragni, H.E.R., Bianca Brandolinid’Adda, and Ross Lynch walked the red carpet wearing the pieces from the collection at its launch.
Born and raised in Rome, Giambattista Valli launched his namesake line in Paris in 2005. His universe now encompasses ready-to-wear, haute couture, and accessories. The collaboration with H&M is the first of its kind for Valli and also marks Valli’s first foray into menswear.
The goal is to share my love for beauty and to be able to be part of everyone’s “happy moments,” and to help create love stories all around the world.
“I am excited about this collaboration. H&M gives me the opportunity to bring my vision of style and my celebration of beauty to a wider audience,” says the Valli. “The goal is to share my love for beauty and to be able to be part of everyone’s ‘happy moments,’ and to help create love stories all around the world.”
The collection features Valli’s romantic aesthetic from the deep red tulle en masse frock to dark florals and a cross on romantic and bohemian pieces for the women. For men, he designed Baroque-inspired jackets, sweatshirts printed with Renaissance art, and dazzling items and fauna-inspired pieces that are also gender fluid.
