When Strokes founder Momoi Supe started his business a few years ago, his mindset was beyond brow styling. As an artist, a Fine Arts graduate with a degree in Interior Design from the University of the Philippines (and with honors at that), he has always had the ability to put in the details for creating balance, symmetry, and beauty.
Although he had started out with brows, it was always about perfecting the total look of the eyes. “My vision, from the very beginning, is to be the only luxury brow and lash studio,” he said in 2018, months before Strokes opened yet another branch at Shangri-La Mall.
It was during this interview that I realized he had clarity in his plans, on what he had set out to do. His background as a makeup artist and interior designer, as well as his sheer love for the craft, had brought life to his passion. He worked hard at it too by learning and perfecting skills—always ahead of the curve.
“My team and I are always one step ahead. Experts who come here to train people, we have trained with years ago, abroad,” Momoi proudly said. “We make it a point to go out and travel every three months to see what’s new out there, and filter what is needed in the Philippine market.” During this time, he had already been busy with product development, having launched the popular lash tinting and lifting, Yumi and Keralift.
Now, more than a year later, fresh off his brand’s spanking new look and latest store opening, Strokes Eye Studio in Bonifacio Global City, he talks about the latest innovation, K Lashes.“We’re very excited about this latest and exclusive product from Strokes because it perfectly complements our hand-done brows,” he says. “It’s like the perfect slice of cake to match your favorite coffee, or the best shoes to pair with your go-to bag.
Lashes that are “wispy and whimsical” are how Strokes describes K Lashes. These are high-quality eyelash extensions and products made in, and imported from Korea. While most eyelash extensions use mink or synthetic hair, K Lashes are made from premium sable hair, which float like a feather. These give full and curled, natural-looking lashes, sans the weight. “Sable is a type of synthetic eyelash extension, but it’s a lot softer and lighter compared to the others,” he says. “This is what sets sable apart from the other offerings on the market. Aside from comfort and convenience, we prefer using synthetic extensions for hygienic purposes.”
As Strokes has customized brows for clients (elite, classic, ombre, fluffy), the same principle applies with lashes. Nothing is one-size-fits-all, and certified lash technicians have the same approach as Strokes’ assembly line of experts has for grooming, shaping, shading, and adding strokes to brows. The oneand-a-half hour K Lash procedure is a customizable, pain-free process. You can choose from any three options: Classic (designed to add more length and volume without being overpowering), Wispy (long, featuring wisps or spikes that create a dramatic effect), Wing (fluffy, featuring customized curls to enable a winged effect), and Warm (full and natural-looking lashes that come in a warm brown shade). Applied using premium, nonirritating glue, the lashes can last up to four weeks with minimal care, even with slip-ups like accidental eye rubbing or water splashes.
Assessing one’s entire ‘eye design’ means assessing not just the brows—but enhancing them with respect to the shape of the lids, lashes, the shape of the face; the female gaze in its entirety
What started out as a small studio with 10 to 15 clients lining up daily to have their brow designs done is now a household name for eye enhancements. With a comprehensive beauty menu for eyes, brows, and lash services, including lips and skin services, Strokes Eye Beauty Studio has now become a one-stop beauty destination.
“In our three years of service, we’ve noticed how in-demand eye beauty service is— from brows and lashes, to permanent eyeliner. Not only does it make beauty routine easier and convenient, it changes how your eyes look and creates a big and lasting impact on your appearance,” says Momoi. “Despite the strong demand, the industry lacks salons that focus only on these. We took it as a challenge to become the first studio zeroing in on eye beauty services.”
Every eye is different. Just as good surgeons and dentists consider many factors before any cosmetic or aesthetic treatment or procedure, the same specialization is employed by Strokes. In the end, assessing one’s entire “eye design” means assessing not just the brows but enhancing them with respect to the shape of the lids, lashes, the shape of the face; the female gaze in its entirety.
Strokes Eye Beauty is located in LGF Uptown Mall Link, Bonifacio Global City, G/F Greenbelt 1, 3/F Vertis North.
