How to help young girls dream even bigger this Christmas

Feel the Yuletide spirit with The Body Shop

By Rey Robes Ilagan

The final stretch of Christmas festivities is here.Make the season of giving linger by purchasing and gifting items that allow you to give back to the community.

This season, The Body Shop partners with two charities: Plan International and Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation. Plan International, an independent development and humanitarian organization, provides training and skills for 1,500 girls in Indonesia and Brazil so they can achieve their dream job or start up their dream business.

“How people can donate to Plan International is very simple,” says Emily Sia-Koa, marketing and store development head of The Body Shop. “All they need to do is to shop at The Body Shop, and for every transaction they make, we are already donating a percentage to Plan International. Of course, I really feel we cannot just stop by helping other countries. What about our own backyard? This is why we looked at Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation. We’re helping the kids in Maluso, Basilan by providing them safe passage to go to school.”

Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation, formerly known as Philippine Funds for Little Kids, started as a national movement aiding school kids who had to swim to school in Layag-Layag, Zamboanga City. Today, the foundation has not only provided funds for building boats but also for structures (bridges, dormitories, classrooms) that support children who travel long distances to go to school.

When you buy a 250 ml Moringa shower gel from The Body Shop this month, 100% net proceeds will go to Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation.

“When you buy a 250 ml Moringa shower gel from The Body Shop this month, 100percent net proceeds will go to Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation,” says Emily.“We’re hoping that the money we put together would be able to help them not just buy boats, but also help them rebuild the bridges that were hit by recent typhoons and probably in-between school shelter for the children. We do believe that in order for us to dream big, for kids to be able to fulfill their dreams, they really need to be educated. Education really gives them hope.”

Aside from these Christmas charitable functions, The Body Shop lets you discover three seasonal ranges in-store: fresh and fruity Juicy Pear, indulgent Warm Vanilla, and the fruity and floral Rich Plum. “These are three Christmas flavors that we’re offering,” Emily shares.“Customers can get it at a Buy One, Get One when they sign up for a Love Your Body Club membership or when they present their SM Advantage Card, SM Prestige Card, or BDO Rewards Card until Dec. 25. It comes in like several formats from shower gels and body butters to scrubs. But most of all, what is so perfect for Philippine weather, it now comes in body yogurt.”
