2020 Tokyo Olympics Ambassadors are J-Pop Culture Icons

One of the strongest and most famous anime characters, Goku from the Dragon Ball series, is among the ambassadors of the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe, dressed as Luigi from the Super Mario franchise, proclaimed four years ago, during the Rio Olympics closing ceremony on Aug. 21, 2016, how Japanese culture will be fundamental for the 2020 Olympics.

The Tokyo Olympics committee settled on the decision that pop culture icons namely Son Goku of Dragon Ball, Naruto, Sailor Moon, Luffy of One Piece, Cure Miracle and Cure Magical of Pretty Cure, Shin of Crayon Shin-chan, and Jibanyan of Yokai Watch.

This is the first step toward the Asian county’s goal of captivating a younger audience as they hope to bring more people together for the Olympics than ever before.
