It was an ordinary day, full of ordinary events, and ordinary people. Until this.

Sunday, Jan. 12. It was supposed to be a laid-back weekend for people living in Batangas, and a restful day for tourists visiting Tagaytay until Taal Volcano decided to show its magnificent power.

In just a couple of hours, ash fall started to pour, turning the nearby municipalities into a desert-like state. Thousands of people evacuated their homes to save themselves from the wrath of the spewing volcanic ash and lava. And as if these are not yet enough, earthquakes started to hit the areas, damaging homes, livelihood, and public infrastructures.

Some of Manila Bulletin’s photographers and videographers are deployed in the affected areas of Batangas and Cavite to capture the current situation there and to show us what this catastrophe has done.

Here are some of their photos and videos, together with some images from the netizens.
