For the past couple of days since Taal Volcano started to erupt on Sunday, Jan. 12, more and more people are coming together to help thousands of our countrymen who have been displaced by this natural catastrophe.
Two of them are Rio John Abel and Maximino Alcantara III. With their desire to help in their own little ways, these two young men, together with their friend Darwin Lajara, headed straight to the evacuation center in Batangas to deliver relief goods.
On their way home during the wee hours of the night, a tragic car accident happened. According to the police report, the young men’s car hit a trailer truck as they were driving along San Jose, Batangas, at around 1:30 am, Tuesday, Jan. 14.
Rio and Maximo were proclaimed dead on the spot, while Darwin suffered serious physical injuries and was rushed to the nearest hospital. Police reports also indicated that these young men are in their 20s.
Their loved ones and friends, and the people they’ve helped are in mourning with their sudden deaths. Rio and Maximo, your contributions and good deeds will never be forgotten. Thank you for showing us that age is not a hindrance if one truly wants to help.
