Five Ways to Freshen Up after Beating Manila Commute

Updated

By JOHN LEGASPI

Last 2019, travel navigation app Waze reported that Metro Manila is one of the worst places to drive in the world. With broken trains, congested highways, and long lines for PUVs, Filipinos are discovering new ways to get into places on time, even if they include being face-to-face with road hazards and pollution.

Though our journey toward road and traffic improvements is still a long one, we’ve rounded up five ways to remedy your beauty from the hell of a trip that is Metro Manila traffic. Nothing is more frustrating than to get out of the house fresh and clean, then arrive at the office already looking beaten up.

Here are five easy ways to freshen up after braving the metro traffic:

Spray on some hair fragrance
Riding motorcycles is the most efficient (and hazardous) way to get to your destination in Manila. It’s cheap, fast, with the vehicles squeezing into even the tiniest paths. However, being exposed to the sun and smoke can make your floral-scented tresses smell like a crazy traffic situation. Spraying on some hair fragrance can ease your feeling of being “amoy araw” in the office.

Swipe on that moist pad
Being stuck in line, or in a jeepney in moving traffic or a standstill, can expose you to the dirt and pollution of the city. Remnants from road pollution could settle deep on the face, causing acne, rash, and other skin breakouts. If you’re not in the mood to do a full facial wash in the office, then wiping your face with hyaluronic acid and propolis extract-infused pads can do the trick. These easy-to-use pads can remove irritants and dead skin cells from the pores, and can restore the skin’s natural oil-water balance.

Dust on some powder
Create a perfect porcelain finish with a light powder to dust on your freshly cleansed face. Regular face powders will do, but for added pizzazz, try on some BB powder. This powder mattes oily skin, absorbs excess sebum, has double UV protection, and provides sparkles that eliminate the use of highlighters. Lightly tinted loose powder can give instant blush to the face. Just avoid the ones that use asbestos.

Pout with lip balm
Heavy sunlight and warm breeze can chap the lips. Lips, being among the most unattended to when it comes to facial care, deserve some loving every now and then. The fastest way to do it is to dab on some lip balm. Balms provide lasting moisturization, and leave a glossy finish, making the lips look plump and healthy.

Spray on the facial mist
To keep all the freshness in, a few sprays of facial mist give a dewy finish, and prevent makeup meltdown. Facial mists are an all-day thirst-quencher for dry skin. These keep the skin cool, fresh, and energized, without the sticky feel. In choosing a facial mist, opt for the all-natural, alcohol-free, and non-aerosol kind. Other mists incorporate extracts that provide nutrients and vitamins that the skin needs, which are always good.
