Famed Filipino fashion designer Ito Curata passed away at the age of 60 on March 26, Thursday, after being confined for pneumonia.
With more than three decades of designing, Ito has developed a certain aesthetic—classic, simple, and elegant—that resonated well with many Filipinas.
Before he dabbled in to the world of fashion, Ito’s first love was fine arts. A self-taught designer, he has dressed many actresses and famous personalities in the Philippines and abroad. One of them is Hollywood actress Sharon Stone, when she graced the cover of Movieline magazine’s 10th anniversary.
During his stay in San Francisco, Ito met his partner Robert Miller, who was then a senior executive in a financial service company. In 2000, the couple decided to establish their home in the Philippines, and by 2004 they built their dream house in Alabang. Two years later, Taj, their son came into their lives.
Filipino designers and friends of Ito, such as Michael Cinco, Philip Rodriguez, Albert Andrada, and Jonas Gaffud, have expressed their grief online.
In a Facebook post, fashion designer Joey Galon said that Ito died due to Covid-19, and that his husband is still in the ICU.
